Who Can Become a Member?
All students, faculty members, and employees of the Institute can register themselves for the membership of the Library. All members are issued bar-coded patron cards.

The Library currently has about 13,000 active members from various departments and categories.

Special Memberships
Alumni Entry
The IIT Delhi Alumni with valid Alumni ID are allowed in the Central Library from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, except during Majors/Minors, etc. as per the ACL decision.
Corporate Membership
Industrial and corporate houses can become "Corporate Members" of the Library:
- Annual Payment: Rs. 15,000/-
- One-time Security (Refundable): Rs. 15,000/-
- Book Borrowing: Maximum 2 books at a time
- Duration: 14 days per issue
Borrowing Rules
- The readers should check the books thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, etc. while getting them issued.
- No book in damaged condition will be accepted from the users on return. Damaged books will have to be replaced by the borrower.
General Book Section
- Faculty/Student/Staff members having RFID card can Self Check-in & Self Check-Out the books using RFID Self Check-in & Self Check-Out Kiosk and Book Drop Box at any time till the Library is open.
- If Faculty/Student/Staff members don't have RFID card, Books can be borrowed from Circulation Counter, Central Library from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM during the weekdays.
Text Book Section
- Two Textbooks can be issued on loan for three days from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM.
Conventions for Issues / Return
- General books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.
- Reference books and bound volumes are issued to members with special permission. Please contact Incharge, Reader Services/Librarian for obtaining permission.
- Theses, dissertations, CDs are not lent out of the Library.
- The renewal of issued book(s) is allowed to a maximum of two times, subject to, that the same being NOT in-demand or reserved by other users. The book(s) which became overdue, are not renewable.
- Students are requested to return books on time. No book will be issued to students having overdue books on their accounts.
Fines & Penalties
Items that are returned after the due date are considered overdue. Overdue fines are assessed at the following rates:
General Section
Rs. 1.00 per day for books issued from General Section
Text Book Section
Rs. 6.00 per day for books issued from Text Book Section
Book Bank Section
Rs. 1.00 per day for books issued from Book Bank Section
Cost Recovery of Lost Books
Following is the approved criteria for recovering the cost of lost books:
- The lost book should be replaced by a new book with overdue charges, if any and with processing charges of Rs. 100/- for each book.
- In case the book is out of print or not available in the market then the double of the cost mentioned in the Accession register should be charged with processing charges of Rs. 100/- for each book with overdue charges, if any.
- Minimum of Rs. 300/- to be charged with processing charges of Rs. 100/- for each book with overdue charges, if any.
- The cost of the book in foreign currency to be charged at the current conversion rate of the currency.
Loss of Identity Card/Library Card
The loss of Identity Card or bar-coded patron card should be reported to:
- Institute Security, and
- Readers Services Division of the Library
The Institute Security or concerned section (UG/PG) will issue duplicate Identity card. Contact Readers Services Division for issuance of barcode.
Important
Borrowers shall be responsible for any loss or misuse of their original/duplicate card.
