The Central Library of IIT Delhi is the primary knowledge support system of the Institute, dedicated to facilitating teaching, learning, research, and innovation. As the hub of the IIT Delhi Library System, it works in coordination with 36 departmental libraries to serve the diverse academic and research needs of the Institute community.

The Library provides access to a rich blend of print and digital resources across engineering, science and technology, humanities, social sciences, and management. With a strong focus on user convenience, technology adoption, and service excellence, the Central Library continuously evolves to meet changing information needs.

History & Legacy

History & Legacy

Established alongside IIT Delhi, the Central Library has evolved from a traditional print-based library into a modern hybrid library system. Over the years, it has played a pioneering role in library automation, digital services, and consortium-based access to electronic resources in India.

The Library also served as the Headquarters of the INDEST–AICTE Consortium, one of the country's most successful and impactful initiatives for shared access to scholarly electronic resources among academic institutions.

Technology & Digital Transformation

The Central Library is an early adopter of emerging technologies aimed at enhancing access, efficiency, and user experience. All in-house library operations are fully computerized using the Koha Library Management System, which provides seamless access to the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).

The Central Library maintains a rich and diverse collection of print, electronic, and multimedia resources covering engineering, science & technology, humanities, social sciences, and management. The Humanities and Social Sciences collection is housed on the Ground Floor of the Library.
