A faculty member can recommend books by either completing a physical recommendation form or using the online book recommendation system.

Faculty members are eligible to recommend books for the Central Library's textbook and bookbank collections.

Faculty members can recommend multiple copies of a book only for textbooks and bookbank collections.

If you require a book for the department/ school/ centre/ unit library, you should recommend two copies - one for the central library and one for the department library.

The price of a recommended book for textbook and bookbank collections must be below ₹10,000 per copy.

As per the procedure, it typically takes 4 to 6 weeks to process and make recommended books available for borrowing.

Ensure your recommendation gets the ‘urgent requirement’ communication mentioning the urgency from the HoD through email/written communication or mentioning on the recommendation form (online or offline).

Yes, registered vendors regularly visit departments/ centres/ schools to showcase newly published books of interest.

Yes, you will receive alerts at various stages of procurement, such as when the order is placed, when the book is received (under processing), and when it becomes a new arrival.

A new arrival alert for the book has been sent to the individual faculty members/ users who made the recommendation.

You can check the status of your recommended book by logging in to the library OPAC (https://libcat.iitd.ac.in) using your IITD Kerberos ID and password. The status will be available in the “Book Recommendation” tab in your profile.

A list of newly added printed books is shared with all users once a month. You can also view it here: https://library.iitd.ac.in/new-arrivals.

The library regularly compiles and updates subject-wise lists of popular books based on notable reviews. These curated lists are available on the library website.

Yes, faculty members can recommend general reading books in addition to subject-specific collections.

The Central Library prepares pathfinders (bibliographies) for print and e-book collections on specific subjects, authors, and notable personalities. The A–Z list of pathfinders is available at: https://library.iitd.ac.in/page/pathfinder.
