Open Textbooks

Virtual Reference Collection: Open Textbooks

An open textbook is a textbook licensed under an open copyright license and made available online to be used freely by students, teachers, and members of the public.

Open textbooks: are created by educators, are reviewed by educators, contribute to successful learning outcomes, an open textbook is adaptable, an open textbook is structured, and an open textbook is shareable.

These textbooks are typically digital and cover a wide range of academic subjects. The open license often used for these resources is called a Creative Commons license, which specifies the permissions granted to users.
