Membership

All the students, faculty members and employees of the Institute can register themselves for the membership of the Library. All Students, faculty and staff members are issued bar-coded patron cards. Their entitlement, in terms of the number of books that can be borrowed by them, are as follows:

Library Membership and Loan Period

All students, faculty and employees of the Institute are entitled for the membership of the Library. Library membership form is available at the Membership Counter at Central Library. The Library membership can also be availed by the retired employees and Alumni of the Institute. The Library currently has about 10000 members. For the renewal of membership contact Circulation counter.

Alumni Entry

The IIT Delhi Alumni with valid Alumni ID are allowed in the Central Library from 9am to 9pm, except during Majors/Minors, etc. as per the ACL decision. However, they are not at all allowed to use the Library Computer Lab/E-resources facilities, to facilitate our current students and staff/faculty.

Corporate Membership

The industrial and corporate houses can become "Corporate Members" of the Library for availing the services of the Central Library on making an annual payment of Rs. 15,000/- and one-time security (refundable) of Rs. 15,000/-. The corporate Members can avail consultation/book borrowing facilities. The Corporate members are entitled to borrow maximum two books at a time for a period of 14 days.

Borrowing Rules

 The readers should check the books thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, etc. while getting them issued.

 No book in damaged condition will be accepted from the users on return. Damaged books will have to be replaced by the borrower.

General Book Section :

 Faculty/ Student / Staff members having RFID card can Self Check-in & Self Check-Out the books using RFID Self Check-in & Self Check-Out Kiosk and Book Drop Box at any time till the Library is open.

 If Faculty/ Student / Staff members doesn't have RFID card, Books can be borrowed from Circulation Counter, Central Library from 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM during the weekdays.

Text Book Section :

 Two Textbooks can be issued on loan for three days from 9:00 A.M. to 5:15 P.M.

Conventions for Issues / Return

 General books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.

 Reference books and bound volumes are issued to members with special permission. Please contact Incharge, Reader Services/Librarian for obtaining permission.

 Theses, dissertations, CDs, are not lent out of the Library.

  The renewal of issued book(s) is allowed to a maximum of two times, subject to, that the same being NOT in-demand or reserved by other users. The book(s) which became overdue, are not renewable.

  Students are requested to return books on time. No book will be issued to students having overdue books on their accounts.

Cost recovery of Lost Books by the Library members

Following is the approved criteria for recovering the cost of lost books by Library members:

 The lost book should be replaced by a new book with overdue charges, if any and with processing charges of Rs. 100/- for each book.

 In case the book is out of print or not available in the market then the double of the cost mentioned in the Accession register should be charged with processing charges of Rs. 100/- for each book with overdue charges, if any.

 Minimum of Rs. 300/- to be charged with processing charges of Rs. 100/- for each book with overdue charges, if any.

 The cost of the book in foreign currency to be charged at the current conversion rate of the currency.

Overdue Fine

Items that are returned after the due date are considered overdue. Overdue fines are assessed at the following rates:

 Rs. 1.00 per day for the books issued from General Section

 Rs. 6.00 per day for the books issued from Text Book Section

 Rs. 1.00 per day for the books issued from Book Bank Section

How to Pay the Late Fees

Loss of Identity Card/Library Card

 The loss of Identity Card or bar-coded patron card should be reported to the Institute Security and Readers Services Section of the Library. The Institute Security or concerned section (UG/PG) will issue duplicate Identity card. Contact Readers Services for issuance of bar-code. Borrowers shall be responsible for any loss or misuse of their original/duplicate card.
