The Central Library, IIT Delhi, looks for young, enthusiastic, and dynamic fresh post-graduates in Library and Information Sciences with a consistently good academic record to serve as Library Interns temporarily. Persons with good communication and interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to learn new skills and deliver services using emerging tools and technologies will be preferred.
Types of Internship
A. Internship for Curriculum Needs
•Duration- One/Three months
•Applying procedure- Request should be routed through HoD of the DLIS of the concerned University/Institution to the Librarian or Internship Coordinator.
•No Remuneration/ Stipend
•Duties- Monday to Saturday
•There is no provision for Institute Accommodation
B. One-year full-time internship on a monthly stipend basis (Brief details)
a. Advertisement Date- Every year in the last week of October/ first week of November
b. No. of Positions- Ten sanctioned positions
c. Eligibility criteria- First Division in Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent with First Division to work as Library Intern. The applicant must have passed MLIS or equivalent examination either only in the current year/ previous year. However, those expecting the MLISc final mark sheet as above by the day of the Interview may also apply
d. Applying procedure
•Interested candidates who fulfill the mentioned criteria in the Advertisement may apply through the ONLINE GOOGLE FORM, available through Central Library, IIT Delhi Website (https://library.iitd.ac.in/) on or before the given time in the Advertisement and upload a recent passport-size photograph (jpeg/jpg format), MLIS Marksheet, MLIS Degree, and Secondary Certificate (mentioning the date of birth).
•If the result is awaited for the MLIS examination, the BLIS mark sheet should be uploaded
•Candidates are required to submit a hard copy of the duly filled application form, along with supporting documents (each page duly signed) to “The Librarian, Central Library, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi-110 016” on or before last date of submission through Speed post. Application, incomplete in any respect and without relevant documents as desired, will be rejected.
e. Nature of work/internship
•Interns will be provided with an opportunity to work in different sections of the Central Library/Unit libraries to learn modern library management techniques and web-based services.
•The Intern is required to work six days a week and can avail up to eight leaves in a year. The Intern is required to do shift duty (Evening Duties) on a rotation basis until 9 p.m.
f. Remuneration/Stipend- Consolidated monthly stipend of Rs. 26,000/-.
g. Duration- The internship will be offered purely on a temporary basis for a maximum period of One Year, subject to satisfactory performance of Six months. The certificate of the internship will be provided to only those who will complete atleast Six months as Library Interns.
h. Age limit- Not exceeding 27 years as of the last application date.
i. No accommodation- There is no provision for Institute Accommodation for the Library Interns, although a good number of accommodations are in the vicinity of IITD on nominal charges, like Katwaria Sarai, Ber Sarai, Jia Sarai, etc., where sufficient independent and shared accommodation is available for males and females.
2. Selection procedure:
a. Formation of IITD internal committee for scrutiny.
b. Scrutiny of applications based on eligibility criteria.
c. Uploading the list of candidates to appear for a Written test &/or Interview on the library website.
d. Sending the call letter to the eligible candidates.
e. Formation of Selection Panel of Experts.
f. Written test &/or Interview - The candidates shortlisted will be called to appear for a Written test &/or Interview. The date for the interview will be announced in due course of time on the Library Website.
g. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the Interview.
3. Candidate selection:
•Preparation of Merit List by a Panel of Experts.
•Offering the vacant position to the candidate individually through the mail as per the merit list.
4. Joining and Document Verification of the Candidate:
When the candidate joins for the position of Library Intern, they have to verify all original educational documents by submitting one set photocopy of all documents along with a passport-size photo.
5. Orientation of the Intern:
On the first day of joining, the central library provides an orientation program to the newly joined candidates and briefly describes all sections of the library, staff, officers, and the nature of work that happened in different sections.
6. Reporting of Intern:
According to the needs of the central Library/unit library, an intern will be placed accordingly.
As a mandatory requirement for completing the Internship and getting the certificate, the intern has to present a PPT at the end of the Internship what he has learned during the internship tenure.
