CĹAN - Central Library, IITD

Central Library, IIT Delhi, has been offering Library Internships since 2007. Each year, a batch of young professionals is recruited and trained through doing-by-learning in all library divisions. This internship program provides valuable hands-on experience for the interns and benefits the library by providing additional support in various services. Over the period, Central Library has trained over 120 young library professionals. The success stories of some professionals who have completed the internship program at Central Library and are now excelling in their professional careers are known to us.

IITD Central Library-interns Alumni Network (CĹAN) has been created to establish and foster a professional networking platform among pass-out intern members who have nurtured their young professional careers in IITD and contributed to the development of Central Library during their internship.

The objectives of CĹAN are:

To stay connected with and among alumni members.
Establish a link between the alumni members and the Central Library.
To share best practices, latest developments & activities.
To create research collaborative opportunities.
To create awareness of career development opportunities.
To contribute to the development of the LIS profession through diverse activities.
To highlight the success stories of the Central Library internship journey to motivate young professionals.
To gather, curate and make accessibility of LIS resources on a single platform.

CĹAN General Board

CĹAN General Board is a team comprising four members who are primarily responsible for directing the initiatives of the CĹAN. In partnership with the Central Library team, the CĹAN General Board facilitates strong connections and relationships among alumni members.

A commitment to serve on the CĹAN General Board carries specific formal and informal responsibilities. The primary responsibilities are:

Actively participating in the planning and execution of various CĹAN activities, ensuring the success and impact of these initiatives within CĹAN members.
Assist in regular updates on the CĹAN website (new members, employer information, etc.).
Organizing periodic workshops/seminars/webinars/lecture series on trends in LIS.
To ensure that alumni have possible access to resources and support to further their professional development and career growth.
In addition to formal responsibilities, board members are also expected to take on any other initiatives as needed to fulfil the objectives of CĹAN.

Tenure: The board members will be selected to serve an initial period of a two-year term with an option for a one-more-year term or till the next board takes over.

Terms of Reference of CĹAN General Board Members

CĹAN Faculty Coordinator: To act as a bridge between the Central Library, IIT Delhi and alumni members, keeping informed about important updates, events, and opportunities. Coordinating in organizing the events, alumni engagement, maintaining alumni database, etc.

CĹAN General Secretary: Will work closely with the faculty coordinator to ensure the smooth operation of the CĹAN. The General Secretary will assist in the event planning and record keeping, as well as help foster connections among alumni and support the association's goals.

CĹAN Member Coordinator: Will manage the members' database, track the professional growth of the members, and assist in updating the CĹAN website. Will also assist in updating achievements and resources available to CĹAN members.

CĹAN Treasurer: Will manage the financial responsibilities of CĹAN, including event expenditure, registration fee, and preparation of balance sheet, if required.

Overall, the board members will work as a team to achieve CĹAN’s objectives and goals to pursue knowledge and professional excellence.
