Dr. Vijay Kumar Verma is currently holding the position of Assistant Librarian (Selection Grade) at the Central Library, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He has twenty years of experience in library and information services. Before his tenure at IIT Delhi, he worked at the National Defence College (NDC), Ministry of Defence, New Delhi. NDC is one of the pioneering institutes in the world, providing training to senior armed services and civil services officers from India and abroad in the field of national security and international strategy.
His current role at IIT Delhi encompasses significant responsibilities, including managing the E-Resources Division (ERD), Research Support Services and Outreach Programs (RSS), and the Nodal Officer-Hindi Section. Before his current responsibility, he was in-charge of the Collection Development Division and Technical Processing Division.
During his tenure as in-charge of different divisions, Dr. Verma was involved in developing and implementing various systems. A few include the Online Book Recommendation System, the library's CCTV system for the library, and the CORAL Electronic Resource Management System. He also contributed as a member/convener of various committees.
Dr. Verma holds a PhD in Library and Information Science from IGNOU, New Delhi, under the supervision of Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Professor LIS & Pro-Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, New Delhi. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Science (Chemistry Honours), a Bachelor of Library and Information Science with a Gold medal, a Master of Library & Information Science and a Master of Arts in Sociology. He qualified for the UGC-NET examination in Library & Information Science.
He has further improved his knowledge & and skills by completing specialised courses through Coursera, including Research Data Management and Sharing from The University of North Carolina, Information Security: Context and Introduction from the University of London, and Technical Writing from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and a few others.
Additionally, he has completed advanced courses in Patent and Patent Information Search and a certificate course in Intellectual Property Rights from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Geneva. Dr. Verma has actively engaged in professional development, participating in various short-term training courses and workshops from esteemed institutions such as the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), National Institute for Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR), now NIScPR, Developing Library Network (DELNET), Centre for Information Technology (CIT), New Delhi and Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad.
He actively contributes to advancing knowledge dissemination, promoting open access initiatives and fostering a culture of research data management and security within academic institutions. He has organised, coordinated and delivered lectures in workshops and training programmes. Dr. Verma delivered a DELNET (Developing Library Network) webinar lecture on COARL: An Open Source Electronic Resource Management System, which was attended by more than 1000 participants from India and abroad. He has also conducted a training programme for Group 'A','B' and 'C' officials of IIT Delhi as a resource person. He was also a member of the local organising committees of national and International Conferences.
Dr. Verma's interests span Electronic Resources Management (ERM), Research Data Management, Information Security, open access, and the application of new and emerging technologies in libraries.
